The Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is the phenomenon of planets or moons trapping heat in the atmosphere.  Just like an actual greenhouse, thermal energy from the sun gets absorbed by certain gases in the atmosphere and the heat gets trapped.  Carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane are the primary gases that trap this heat.  This trapped heat is extremely useful and allows our planet to keep the mild temperatures that we enjoy.  Useful, for us, perhaps, but deadly for other places (see your BlogWork).

Research:  Describe the atmosphere on Venus and explain why it is the way it is.

Though Earth and venus are similar in size and place in the solar system, they did not form the same way. gthis is due to the the greenhouse effect gone arwy. there are multiple gasses on venus that are in the atmosphere of venus that, along with increased sunlight, cause a stronger greenhouse effect. The effects of this would be that the oceans would evaporate and all sources of vaiable life would diminish and could never be, again. it wouold also cause chemical reactions that would result in a dominoe-like effect causing one runnaway greenhouse effect after another. with out a catascopic event from nature.

Venus can appear similar to Earth in many ways, but the key difference between the 2 is that atmosphere.
This is because of what they call the "run away greenhouse effect," which is basically our greenhouse effect that has been vamped up. Because of that pant life, oceans, and stones could not form, making Venus essentially just something to be heated up with sunlight caught in its strange gases

Now we all known that Venus is the second planet from the sun. But Venus has something that other planets don't have. Its entire atmosphere is like a giant oven. This atmosphere is is not thin like the Earth's is sometimes. By the time you get exposed to the air in Venus, you would die. There are to main reasons for this. First, the air is not good there. Secondly, it is really, really hot. Its atmosphere is very heavy so that would squash you too. Carbon Dioxide is the main element of Venus's atmosphere. Heck, 96% of the gasses there is Carbon Dioxide. Why is this place so hot? Because of a little thing called The Greenhouse Effect. That is what Venus is like.

Venus is very similar to Earth in many ways, but one way this is not true is Venus’s atmosphere. Venus is surrounded by gases such as carbon dioxide, because of this it traps heat and reflects the rays. So when the sun sends rays down the heat gets trapped within the atmosphere and the rays are reflected. Another thing that causes to the extreme heat is that there is nothing to absorb the heat on the planet such as plants and water. This extreme heat is hot enough to melt led. Venus’s has a very interesting atmosphere that varies very much from ours.

the atmosphere is so very hot and sticky. you would not survive on the atmosphere. you would be crushed from the enormous amount of weight from the gravity. it is hot enough to melt lead in one second.

Don't forget to put your source down.
You now what happens with Dan.

Venus and Earth are similar in relation to size and density. In class we copied the diagram,The 5% on chart was of the gases reflected off of the earth. That what reflected from the earth was infared radation also known as radiant heat. yet; infared radation absorbs carbon monoxide and water vapor+many other gases..if enoungh infared radation is absorbed it raises the tempature of the atmosphere..

my source is the source u have up there.. =)

Venus most probably had an atmosphere and density similar to earth a long time ago, because they both have the same size and nearly the same position in the solar system. What happened was a runaway greenhouse effect, which happens when the CO2 in the atmosphere, or too much solar radiation. The temperature raises because radiation is trapped in the atmosphere, which results in the temperature boiling and the oceans evaporating, speeding up the process ( because of the water vapor). This is the reason why some young children naturally think that mercury is warmer then venus. Because of the trapped heat, it is the opposite.

The green house affect changed its atmosphere. It happened something like this. the suns radiation Hit venus and heated it up changing the molecular structure of the atoms which made the rays bounce back as infra red or something like that.

Venus and Earth are alike, but they have very different greenhouse effects. Venus has a "runaway greenhouse effect", while Earth does not. Venus is much hotter and has much higher pressure.

Venus and Earth's are very similar, yet very different. Both planets are suffering from the greenhouse effect, though Venus more so than Earth. This is because Venus is the second planet to the sun, and therefore it is more heated at times than the Earth is. So, more rays of sunlight are getting trapped in Venus's atmosphere, and therefore the planet is heated more than Earth.

It's hot, it's thick, it's extremely heavy, and if your human it's impossible to breathe and you will melt. If you survive then you would see sulfuric acid clouds acting like a blanket over the planet and don't forget to bring your hat's for some shade because the lower atmosphere is HOT thanks to the greenhouse effect!! With an atmosphere made of 96% carbon dioxide, 3.5% nitrogen, and a measly 1% of other things this is your ideal vacation spot!! Why is it different from Earth's atmosphere you ask? Well you should come and experience the Goldilocks phenomenon yourself!! WELCOME TO VENUS!!!!

The earth is very much like Venus but Venus is much hotter and has a much greater atmospheric pressure. this is because of something called the runaway greenhouse effect and it happened because Venus eventually got to hot then and it's rocks got to hot and then the rocks started venting Co2 and the planet then trapped more heat and the planet got hotter and the rocks relleasing more Co2 and so on and so forth and the the atmosphere deterieated and stade that way

Venus is a dangerous planet and is not suitable for any living thing. The air on venus is not the air you should breathe. If you were to land on venus you would be crushed to death because of the enormous weight of the atmosphere or wyou would burn to death because of the high temperature which is hot enough to melt lead to a liquid. In fact you would be luckly to pass through the atmosphere. It is mostly made of carbon dioxide and sulfric acid.
