The Carbon Cycle

Today we discussed the carbon cycle, which is the way that carbon gets moved through our environment.  Carbon is essential to life on Earth and is a key component to proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.  The carbon cycle is a model that scientists have created to show how carbon gets transferred between the atmosphere, land, water, and organisms.  When you eat a living organisms (whether it is a buffalo or a carrot) you are adding to the carbon cycle.

A carbon sink is a deposit of carbon that stores carbon for an indefinite period of time.  Fossil fuels and limestone deposits are examples of these reservoirs of carbon.

In your life, where do you think you are creating the most CO2?
What would be one way that you could reduce the amount of CO2 that you create?

I believe that i create the most Co2 from playing so many hours on the electronics which use up tons of electricity each day which burns coal into the earths atmosphere in large amounts at power plants. to reduce the Co2 that t I put into the atmosphere i will probably unsuccessfully reduce the amount of time on electronics.

I have to agree with the above poster I play way too many video games, and that has to use up an enormous amount of electricity, which of course is produced by coal burning power plants.

I think I create more co2 as I play more video games, and use more electricity combined with the fact that I produce more garbage than the last two posters. I use slot of disposable items and a lot of non biodegradable items every day. Finally, I drive my golf cart around every day when I am in florida. To reduce my co2 emisions I could bike when I am in Florida, as well as reducing my waste disposal.

I create the most Co2 by turning on lights and accidentally leaving them on which means that i am making some person at an electric factory put more coal in a burner to make steam to tern some carbines to generate electricity and that hole proses contributes to global warming

The things that I do to create the most co2 are probably riding in a car. Seeing as how I drive an hour and half commuting to and from school all added up every day expect Saturday and Sunday not including other earns throughout the day driving is almost definitely what I do to leave the most co2. I could try to do more walking or biking to smaller things in other weather to lessen the co2 I use, but it’s hard to lessen the co2 in driving because where I live most things are not walking or biking distance. I would say I could try car pooling to and from cool but I already do this. So I will try to walk and ride my bike more places and carpool as much as I can.

P.S. This site can add up all the co2 you use it seems really cool. http://www.safeclimate.net/calculator/

I think most of my CO2 come from using computers, because I use the computer or other electronics hours a day and it burns fossil fuels. I think maybe if I quit computer use I can stop producing most of my CO2.

i probably use a lot of Co₂ and don't realize it. mostly is riding in a car like people said. others are probably leaving way to many lights on at the time...that also uses alot of energy and can be prevented. if we didnt use cars all the time and biked alot or any other way to transport ourself without fuel the Co₂ would go down.

I think I make the most Co2 when I get super lazy and beg my mom to pick me up from school rather then public transportation. I also make that a lot of Co2 with the amount of TV I watch..or don't watch, when I go to sleep I forget to turn off the TV and its just running all through the night wasting electricity and making the coal burning plants have to add more coal just to keep my TV running through the night. If I took those extra 2 minutes out of my time and turn off the TV I can save a good amount of electricity.

Nice responses everybody. Blogging probably takes up a percentage of CO2 emissions. Sorry. But, is it less than making paper?

BTW I think I need to amend my snow prediction. I now predict that we will have a snow day tomorrow. I just shoveled my sidewalk and it looks like things will be a mess tomorrow. If you do have a snow day, go out and offer to shovel your neighbors walkway.

Peace

I think i use alot of co2 when i watch tv and when im on the computer at the same time. using both im wasting so much electricitiy.just like eve said; i leave lights on even when in not in the room. i can rember to turn the lights off,and only use one electronic at a time.then i could narrow the time of how much i use them both.

i think i emit the most Co2 by riding in cars everywhere instead of walking or at least taking the bus. I also think that letting the heat out in my house by opening windows and doors and just the heating itself. I don't think I use to much electricity by playing video games as many above posters have stated, but just the day to day electronics we are all used too seem like they can do some damage Co2 wise.

I can agree with many people here that we make a lot of Co2 play video games. But truthfully, I think that we make the most Co2 from doing one of the most simplest things in life... breathing. We inhale Oxygen that we get from flowers, trees, and other plants, and we exhale Co2 (AKA Carbon Dioxide.) I don't think its possible that you can play more video games than you breathe though. We do use a lot of electricity so than can also make Co2. We also may get Carbon Dioxide from the fossil fuels that come from cars. Though anyway, those are the main things that we do and somewhat of i myself do that makes Co2.

I think that the amount of CO2 is coming from use human beings from all the breathing and playing and the factory are creating some of the CO2 from all the smoke and all of the chemicals they are using.

I probably waste the most playing on the computer and other electronics... including when i leave my stuff on while it charges... I could start reducing the amount of Co2 by turning my stuff off while it charges and i could start doing more activities that don't involve electricity like playing more sports and reading during the daytime.

The way that I create CO2 is by the transportation I use to get from place to place. I ride in a car to school, and I usually ride in a car on the way home. (unless I take a bus.) Not only is that how I believe I am creating CO2, but I believe that's how most people are creating CO2.

The way that I don't use as much CO2 is that I take public transportation almost everywhere I go. That may be because my mom doesn't own a car but it still it counts.I also use a curtain kind of light bulb that doesn't use as much electricity when i use it.

i think i produce co2 when leaving lights on in my house and forgetting to turn the lights off, the same thing with electronics, the easiest to stop producing more co2 all i have to is just to turn off the lights and turn off the t.v.
