Lungfish!

As we look at all of the different biomes and the amazing adaptations that animals have acquired in order to survive in the most challenging of environments, we need to pause every now and then and appreciate the slimiest of those organisms.

BlogWork
Watch the video about the Lungfish. Write a comment (1-2 sentences) about the video. Then describe a creature in the biome that you are studying that also has an amazing adaptation.

The lungfish is an amazing organism that has adapted to survive in Africa where you can never know when the water will be there or not. The lungfish is able to stay out of water for 4 years without food, living on only their body fat and muscle.

The camel as a transparent eyelid which keeps the sand out of its eyes.

I think that is really neat that the lungfish can breath both underwater and on land. How many people do you know who can do this? (I mean real ones. Percy Jackson doesn't count.)

The jackrabbit has really long ears. But they are not to increase its hearing capabilities. It can control the blood flow to them, allowing the jackrabbit to regulate its body temperature.

Lung fish can survive in water and out of water. They have adapted to live underground and rely on their body fat to live.

The red fox adapts to different habitats because the fox might have to leave if a badger takes over.

The Lungfish is an interesting species of fish, with a unique survival method. It can live four years out of the water. It does not need food and they live off of the fat in their body.

The Mountain Lion can climb up and down trees with incredible speed to catch prey.

The Bizarre Lungfish is able to survive on land as well as under water. When not under water, the Lungfish endures the heat by burrowing.

The Arctic Fox is able to blend in with it's surroundings and be discrete by changing its fur color throughout the year.

An interesting adaptation in the tropical rainforest is that New World Monkeys have prehensile tails to help them grab on to branches.

An Animal Planet video spoke of a peculiar type of fish in Southern Africa, the Lungfish. It has gills to breathe underwater but lungs able to breathe air when there's no water so it can survive without water for a while in dirt. If that's not an amazing adaptation, what is? Animals in the taiga have fur that changes color by season so it can hide from predators.

The lungfish lives in Africa, where the weather causes problems for ordinary fish when the water they live in dries up. The lungfish can not only breathe through a lung but they can bury in the mud for four years without food and water.

The lungfish can breath on in air and under water. They have adapted this ability because they live in a dry and hot climate. The water dries up therefore the lungfish will not be under water all the time.

The cowbird lays its eggs in others nests. A lot of the time the mother will remove an egg from the nest and place its own instead. It is called the cowbird because it will eat bugs that live on the cows.

Before I even watched the video, I figured that the lungfish was a fish that can breath underwater and breath air.

The Bengal Tiger, has incredible speed and strong back leg muscles to help them pounce and catch their prey

When the sun dries out the water from the Lungfish, they find a new home which is underground. When it is underground, the lung fish slows its metabolism and relies on its muscles and body fat as a source of food.

Scorpions have lived in the desert areas of the United states for thousands of years. Scorpions naturally live outdoors, and do not like to be disturbed. Scorpions survive on various insects and small animals, such as rodents. At times, they also feed on lizards and spiders.

I think the Lungfish is an incredible creature. It’s amazing how it can survive for four years, just living on its fat and muscles!

Chameleon

One animal that has amazing adaptations are Chameleons. They can move their eyes independently, in other words the can have one eye look up and one eye look down at the same time! They can also change colors to camouflage themselves. They change color depending on their surroundings, climate, and even their mood. One more adaptation is that they can shoot their tongues out of their mouthes and catch insects almost a foot away, and with super speed and super accuracy!
