Invasive Species!

We have been studying the natural states of the world biomes and spent a little bit of time thinking about the threats to them. Mostly, threats involve human involvement, like when people chop down huge swaths of rain forest or set fires accidentally in dry conditions. Humans are paving large sections of natural ecosystems and preventing migratory patterns and disrupting access organisms need to food and water.

Another problem, which is also usually caused by human involvement, is the spreading of invasive species. An invasive species is a plant or animal that does not belong in an ecosystem and which ends up dominating. Sometimes this is done by accident, as when seeds get dispersed through shipping containers. Other times it is done purposefully, as when someone thinks that bringing in an animal in one area will help control a pest problem.

Invasive species cost the United States a lot of money.
50% of birds in danger of becoming extinct are in danger because of invasive species.
Invasive species take up the space that other species would normally use.
Invasive species can be poisonous to other animals.
Some invasive species are brought to their environment accidentally but some are brought because they look nice or it is believed that they will help the environment.
Not all exotic species are invasive.
Invasive species are the reason 42% of the species that are endangered or threatened are endangered or threatened.

About 43% of threatened or endangered species are in danger because of foreign invaders

Estimates show that invasive plants in the US cover about 100,000,000 acres of land.

Every year in America about 3 million acres of land is lost to invasive plants

An invasive species that is left not taken care of it will eventually wipe out some of the land it’s on.

Invasive species can spread disease

Invasive species can be poisonous to other organisms

A lot of invasive species were brought to their new home by accident.

1.To meet the criteria of an invasive species, a type of animal must be foreign to the environment it dominates.
2.The more invasive species are neglected, the worse they become.
3.The exotic stinging needle, can grow throughout campsites, making it hard for campers to settle.
4.Feral hogs in the south eat essentially everything. This includes any food you leave out.
5.The chestnut blight canker fungus has had a profoundly destructive impact on North America. It killed the majority of mature American chestnut trees.
6. Enough gypsy moths can induce the full defoliation of trees.
7.Feral hogs can infect humans and livestock with brucellosis.

Aralia spinosa, commonly known as devil's walking stick, is a prime example of an invasive species. It has no predators in the Northeast U.S. This allows it to grow totaly uncontroled throughout places such as the wissahickon creek area. It also has many spines (Isn't that right, Julian?) along its shoots to further protect it. It takes over sections of forest which used to house thriving communities of plants and animals.

Apparently, some people think that the devil's walking stick looks pretty. I, how ever, think that is Crayfish. I mean, it has these spines sticking out all over it, people! I would want this in my house with young children about as much as to die a slow, painful death!

Not all invasive species are introduced to help; some come on their own to expand territory.

Other invasive species come for attractions like monkeys or giraffes and then escape. They could also escape from owners.

Florida has cane toads.

Cats and dogs domestic are considered to be invasive mammals,

Elks are an invasive species

The house mouse is an invasive species too.

Invasive species, if left alone, will limit land use now and into the future.

The longer we ignore the problem the harder and more expensive the battle for control will become because they will spread out and take over most of the land.

Invasive species can decrease your enjoyment of hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating and other outdoor recreational activities.

The United States alone suffers from $1.1-120 billion per year in economic losses due to invasive species.

Invasive species can cause economic, environmental and health for humans harm

The term invasive classifies the most aggressive species

The invasive species will grow and reproduce fast, and that causes disturbance

If they don't control invasive species, they'll limit the land we can use now and later

We need to pay attention because if we don't, when we do control it we have to work harder and it will be more costly

Invasive species get in the way of outdoor activities

The country has to spend billions of dollars to the care of invasive species

Invasive species are animals and plants that live throughout environments. They expand rapidly and can cause environmental harm and harm the human health.
Invasive plants make camping unpleasant because there is a plant that can sting you if you get to close to it. Also there are plants that can kill the trees and wildflowers in the area.
Fire ants can harm you if you disturb there home/trees. The fire ants sting could leave permanent marks.

An invasive species is a species that does not normally live in an area and usually causes harm or damage to the place where it is not supposed to live.

They grow and reproduce at extreme speeds.

If an invasive species is left alone, it can cause a loss of land use.

The longer we refrain from doing anything about the problem, the harder and more costly it will be to control the species.

If an invasive species grows in an area, it can limit the amount of fishing, hunting, etc. you can do in the area.

The U.S government loses 1-120 billion dollars because of invasive species.

42% of threatened or endangered species are subject to danger because of invasive species that do not belong in the area where the other species are growing.

1.Invasive plants affect birds in many ways. The plants are where most of the birds get there food and nutrients from. Also the the trees give the birds shelter for nests. So this makes the birds endangered.
2.Hydrilla can grow up to eight inches a day in clear water and can spread tubers, turions and fragmentation.
3.Because the hydrilla grows so long it can get tangled in in the boat motors. If the fishers don't clean their boats then the hydrilla fragments will get into new bodies of water.
4.The red imported fire ants attack the birds eggs, their young, and even the adults.
5.There are also invasive species that you cannot see in your garden and it will eventually kill your plants.
6.Gardeners in the United States spend an about $460 million a year to control Japanese beetles in their gardens.
7.In pastures, invasive weeds can produce virtual monocultures and it limits the variety of plants in the diets of livestock.
