The Niches of Fishes

Fishes exist in just about every aquatic environment on the planet. From the shallow seas to the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean, fishes have found ways to adapt and survive. Some fish, like the stingray, are bottom dwellers that spend their time searching the bottom of the ocean floor. Others, like the hagfish, have amazing adaptations (remember the mucus?).

~Whale Shark~

The whale shark is a type of fish, and it is extremely large, it weights about 20.6 tons! And their bodies length is the length of a school bus.

Even though they are big and scary they mostly eat plankton, and other small fish.

The whale shark likes warm water temperatures, so they live in tropical weather. The whale sharks range South America, Africa, and South Asia.

The whale sharks are not endangered, but are threatened due to that people still hunt them in parts of Asia.

in king-man reef the food triangle is upside-down and every thing is complicated. at the bottom are the herbivores but they are the tip not the base. the small brightly colored fish are greatly outnumbered by sharks.the prey fish have to grow fast to stabilize the triangle and stay alive. even so some predators go hungry. however if we remove the predators the prey will grow in pop and the reef will die.

-------Anglerfish-------
The Anglerfish are probably the most ugly fish on the planet. They live in the deep dark bottom of the sea. There are more than 200 species of Anglerfish and most all of them live in the Atlantic and Antarctic oceans.

The female Anglerfish are known for there dorsal spine that comes up and out above there mouth, which got them there name.

Some Anglerfish are big and are 3.3 feet (1 meter) long. Most, though, a lot smaller and usually smaller than a foot. But because their mouths are so big they can swallow fish twice there size.

The male is a lot smaller than the female and "has no need for such an adaptation". When a young male sees a female, it then attaches to her with its teeth. Overtime combines itself into the female becoming into her skin and blood stream and losing his eyes and internal organs except the testes. The female can hold up to 6 males.

basking sharks are the second largest fish. they are located in the long island area. they can grow up to 32 feet long. they are considered not dangerous. they feed on mainly plankton. on july 14th 2009 a 20 foot long basking shark came up on shore dead on a beach between new york city and long island. that shark died of some kind of illness unknown yet.

There are only three sharks that attack humans, one of them are bull sharks. They do not really have a certain niche they are pretty flexible. They can go from marine to fresh water with no problems, they travel a lot. You are more likely to be struck by lighting than be bit by a shark even though these sharks are very aggressive.

***THE SUNFISH/MOLA***

The sunfish is naturaly bullet shaped, it's tail does not grow making it folds into itself into a rounded rudder. They have silvery color and rough skin.Their teeth are shaped into beak-like structure, they are notable to fully close their mouths. They eat jellyfish, small fish and algae. they are found in temperate and tropical oceans. They are seen near the surface.Their population is stable, though they on can suffocate on sea trash, like plastic bags.

sunfish.

the sunfish is by far the biggest boned fish in the ocean. from back fin to mouth the fish can be over 10 feet long, and from fin to fin it can be over 14 feet long. the average sunfish weights upwards of 5000 pounds.

the ocean sunfish can become overly infested with skin parasites. sometimes so much that they invite smaller fish or birds to come eat the parasites off of their skin. another tactic they use is to throw themselves around 10 feet up in the air and then splash down to try to shake off the parasites.

the sunfish population is stable however because they feed mostly on jelly fish they sometimes accidentally eat plastic bags that they assume are jellyfish, this more often than not lead to suffacation and death.

I did the article about clownfish

some of the information it has are their physical features. They are called clownfish because of the vibrate colors on their bodys, from orange to purple.

There are 29 species of clownfish living in reefs from East africa to jipan and polonesia.

One adaptation they have are to their homes.Anemones sting There predators if they get too close. Clownfish have adapted to not get stung by them.

Whale shark can reach 40ft in size. It is the second largest fish. They like to be in warm so they populate in all tropical seas. The whale shark will migrate to central west coast of Australia. Ningaloo reef provides the whale shark with an abundant supply of plankton . They are hunted in parts of asia.

The Pacific octupus has a very unique way of fighting off dogfish sharks. It's long tentacles make quick sashimi of the shark- unskinned sashimi that is. This aquarium kept finding their sharks dead so they hid cameras to find out what was going on.

The Mola otherwise known as the Ocean Sunfish tends to seem quite large to most people even tho it just seems like a half of a fish. The Ocean Sunfish have some what see through "skin" and are, in a way, bullet shaped the are a sort of silver color with rough skin. The reason for this being is that when the Sunfish is born there back fin simply never grows, but instead it shapes itself into a very large rounded rudder. The males can be as big as 14 by 10 feet and over 5,000 pounds. These fish can be found in both tropical and temperate waters. They like to stay near the waters surface so that they can bask in the sun which is one of the reasons why they are mistaken for sharks because the only body part of them that is out of water is there fin. The Ocean Sunfish often has skin parasites which often summon small fish, and sometimes birds to eat them away. Sometimes in an effort to rid themselves of the parasites they will jump as high as 10 feet in the air and land with a huge splash. Even tho they can do all of the in truth they are quite clumsy swimmers. For food they tend to eat jellyfish or other small fish and zooplankton sometimes they will also eat algae. The Ocean Sunfish are harmless to people and quite curious fish and when they see scuba divers the tend to want to (and sometimes) approach the swimmers. they have a pretty even population but occasionally get caught in fishers nets, or will suffocate in things like plastic bags because of there curiosity.

The Lamprey is a bloodsucking parasite fish with a circular mouth with nothing but rows of razor sharp teeth. The Lamprey's backbone is made of cartilage, a flexible substances that gives our noses and ears their shapes. The only other animal that is at least somewhat related to the Lamprey is the hagfish, these two creatures are completely different from all other animals known to man.
