Water Monitoring

After collecting water samples of the runoff leading into the Wissahickon we begin our work in analyzing the samples to assess the health of our local aquatic ecosystem. In the next week, we will be analyzing the samples for pH, dissolved oxygen content, nitrates and phosphates, turbidity, and coliform bacteria.

Lake baikal is in russia and many people think of it as there national treasure.Lake Baikal has more plants and animals than any other lakes in the world. It also has many native tribes which herd rein deer and stick with ancient traditions. The way that the baikal was created was the movement of the earth. This made a deep stone valley which over thousands of years was filled by rain, rivers, and streams.
Interesting fact: the Baikal water is well known for its medicinal purposes and it is called living water.

Lake Baikal is a humungous lake located in Russia, and holds 20% of the unfrozen freshwater in the world. Hundreds of rivers flow into Lake Baikal, but the only one river provides an exit. Mainly though, Lake Baikal is known for its amazingly pure and clear water. The water is so clear you can see up to 50 meters down. This is a remarkable feat considering how polluted the world is now. On that note though, I’d imagine that the lake would be under major threat of pollution. Lake Baikal
Lake Baikal is located in Southern Siberia in Russia, in between Irkutsk Oblast
To the northwest and the Buryat Republic to the southeast, near the city of Irkutsk. It is also known as the Blue Eye of Siberia. It is probably because it is the deepest lake in the world. Or the biggest freshwater lake in the world (by volume), holding approximately twenty percent of the worlds total surface freshwater. Preservation of the lake, however, has
recently come to international attention. The Paper-and-Pulp
Mill at Baikalsk has polluted the surrounding region and
threatens the pristine conditions that have existed for
centuries. The paper mill produces bleached cellulose that is
used in clothing manufacture

Lake Baikal is in south siberia. It is the deepest lake in the world aswell as the largest freshh waster lake in the world. A paper mill sits right on the side of the lake, using chlorine to bleach its paper the remaining chemicals are sent into the lake. An oil pipeline is also a threat if it is ever made, and odds are it will be.

Lake Baikal is located in Siberia. It is the world's largest and deepest freshwater lake. There is an immense amount of biodiversity. Baikal is home to freshwater seals and a variety of fish. There was once a plan to build an oil pipeline close to the lake. The problem with this is that if the pipe leaked, the oil would spill into the lake. In the end, the pipeline was built, but away from the lake.

Lake Baikal is the largest body of water in Asia that has salt-free water. This makes it unique from other Asian freshwater lakes. It’s in Siberia, Russia. Factories in the area cause pollution in the lake.

Lake Baikal is located in the Southern part of Siberia, Russia with the nickname "Blue Eye of Siberia". It is the largest lake with freshwater on Earth (in volume) as it contains 1/5 of the world's freshwater from a surface point of view. This lake was born in an old rift valley which means that it is also bow-shaped. It has such a diverse ecosystem that it has over 1,700 animals and plants living there with no hope of finding anywhere else, but Lake Baikal!
