Cell Division

One of the most important aspects to life is the ability to reproduce. Species reproduction hinges on cellular reproduction. The ability for a cell to make copies of itself is an amazing process. It is happening on a constant basis all through your body and all through the living world.

In the human body, the 46 chromosomes form 23 pairs of chromosomes. The pairs form because the chromosomes are alike. When there are two of every chromosome the cell is called diploid. Sex cells, on the other hand, contain only one chromosome from each matched pair and are called haploid. Therefore, a human sex cell has 23 chromosomes, not 23 pairs of chromosomes.

Meiosis happens when an organism reproduces. Sex cells form with one half the chromosomes of the original cell. This way, when that cell pairs up with a sex cell from another organism, the result is a combination of chromosomes from both parents.

Mitosis is happening all the time throughout your body. In this process, the nucleus of a cell divides to form two identical nuclei. Each of the two nuclei contain the same number and type of chromosomes as the original.

BlogWork

Go to the website CellsAlive.com. On the left side of the website, there is a section called "interactive." Starting with the "Cell Model" link, go through each of the interactive activities (you don't need to do the puzzles or the quizzes). Make a comment (write a paragraph) about cell division based on what you learned through these demonstrations.

I learned that the phases of mitosis look extremely weird on that website.
I also learned that the bacterial cell had many pieces that normal cells do not.

I learned on this website many different things about cells. Like that the reproduce by splitting apart. There are many different types of cells. this what I learned on this website.

I learned that the division of cells is a very complex matter that has many stages. There are many phases to cell division like Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, and Anaphase.
I think cells are a very interesting matter that can be discussed in many ways. Many cells have to split apart to reproduce themselves.

I learned about the cell cycle during the growing process from the stem to completely differentiate. the cells in your body split up and dived or also called mitosis and seem to be taking a rest also know as interphase.

I learned that Meiosis happens and the cells know to form with 1/2 the normal chromosomes when the sex cells meet they from a whole. Also mitosis is pretty interesting, I like how the cells keep doubling…2 then 4…then 8....

As I was looking at how the mitosis and how it divides into two. I saw when it was at the prophase the DNA starts to form to get ready to pull the mitosis apart. When at the prometaphase the DNA start to come together. From there they go into the metaphase and they meet and get ready to pull away. Once they are at the anaphase the DNA has just begun separating by pulling away and getting ready to form into two. At the telophase it is just beginning to get its shape. Then it get to the cytokinesis and a form of two circles appear but isn’t completely separated. Then the mitosis is back to the interphase but divided into two.

Cells are small but the activity inside them is big. This only goes to show that things aren't always as they seem.

i thought it was very interesting how the cells split up and hows there so many stages to it dividing.when i watched the video i saw that it came togeter before it seperated witch i thought was interesting too.

I learned that in the animal cell the cytoskeleton keeps the cells shape in tact. Also in the plant cell i learned that, the peroxisomes convert fatty acids to suger.

the cell division process is very complex and there are many stages the cell goes through like prophase anaphase metaphase and interphase i find it interesting it has to go through all these stages.

I learned that during the longest phase of the cell cycle, interphase, the cell appears visually idle, but is actually doing important tasks in preparation for its next division

i saw the cancer cell and the bacterica cells and they look all strange. yet they look cool.

i learned that there are many different stages of division. these are some of the stages 0f cell division: interphase (preparing for mitosis).the prophase (chromatin the the nucleus begins to condense). the prometaphase (nuclear membrane dissolves).the meta phase (spindle fibers align the chromosomes along the middle).the anaphase (paired chromosomes separate).the telophase (chromatids arrive at apposite poles of the cell).and lastly cytokinesis (results when fiber ring contracts).
